Litter Picking

How did it start?

Back in 2021 during Covid a group of us were doing a Lent Course about caring for creation and the climate crisis, this was online over Zoom. In conclusion, we collectively committed to do a range of things for our planet. One practical element is litter picking to make a difference to the world, show our love for the planet and be involved in our community.

How to get involved?

The group has grown since 2021, with the number of volunteers from across our community picking each and every week, all year round. There are groups picking on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday and we post where to meet each week on Facebook and through our Parish Notices. Come along and try it, there is no expectation of coming each week just when you can would be great.

Who can get involved?

Everyone can help, the Council has provided the litter picking equipment but please come along with strong shoes and gloves. If you are under 17 please come with a responsible adult who can join in and enjoy helping too.

Why get involved?

We all live and share the same environment and litter picking is a simple way to make a difference, meet new people with a shared purpose and show our love for the planet and God. Litter picking is great at keeping active, is good for the mind, is strangely addictive, you also meet some great people and share time together in Our World helping to take care of it. By September 2023 in the last year we have nearly 1000 volunteer hours and nearly 1500 bags collected, that is some achievement and is making the difference together.
