What we believe
|
Our aim is to be a worshipping community of Christians whose lives and actions demonstrate God's love in a meaningful way, making a difference to people's lives.
As an Anglican church we believe in the trinity of God. A loving Father and creator, who sent His only Son to redeem humanity through His death and resurrection, and who gave us His Holy Spirit. to dwell with us and empower our lives. We have a rich history of worship on the site of the Parish Church throughout 12 centuries, however we offer a variety of styles of worship in keeping with Anglican traditions. We celebrate diversity within unity and have something to offer Christians and enquirers of all ages. There are several worship centres apart from the main Parish Church. As a church family we want to grow God's kingdom within our locality and offer regular Alpha courses for enquirers to the Christian faith. We are increasingly moving towards a Cell Church structure whereby our Sunday and midweek worship services are complemented by cell groups meeting in people's homes. There is a strong emphasis on Children's and Youth work, with a full time worker being a core member of our Staff team. We actively involved in the work of the Churches Together organisation in our town.
Some of our other activities are: Mothers' Union, several small groups including Lifeline (intercessory prayer group) and Viewfinders (a photographic group).
St. Mary and St. Cuthbert is a fair trade church and in particular we support the work of Traidcraft . We support the work of several missionaries and their organisations throughout the world (Missionaries).
