Information on your Child’s Baptism


Thank you for enquiring about having your child baptised in our parish. We do hope that you will choose to proceed with this.

We see baptism as both a privilege and a responsibility.

It’s a privilege to be asked to share with you and your family in the Christian up-bringing of your child.
It’s a responsibility because we want to provide you, the parents and your child’s Godparents with a proper opportunity to prepare for the promises which you will have to make at the baptism.

In baptism, you as parents are: thanking God for his gift of life, deciding to start your child on the journey of faith and asking for the Church's support.

For your child; baptism marks the start of a journey of faith, which involves turning away from the darkness of self-centredness, turning towards Christ and becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family.

Baptism is a 'sacrament': a visible sign of God's love. In baptism, we are thanking God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledging his love. We are acknowledging that we all need to turn away from the darkness of evil and to make a new start with God.

As we have a large number of requests for baptism in our parish we have developed a procedure to help you. The first step is to ring the Parish Office (388 3295) to make a provisional booking for the baptism and give all the details we need to process the booking. The date of your Service of Welcome and Preparation Evening will also be fixed by this call. The next step is that a Baptism Visitor will contact you to arrange a home visit.
