Churches Together in Chester-le-Street is part of Churches Together North-East and Churches Together in England, which came into being in 1991. (Before then we were called "Chester-le-Street Fellowship of Churches".)

We have 5 member churches: Saint Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Church, The Salvation Army, The United Reformed Church, The Methodist Church and our Anglican Parish Church of Saint Mary and Saint Cuthbert.

"Churches Together" exists to further the cause of Christian Unity by sharing fellowship wherever possible and to show a shared concern for evangelism to those of our town who do not know Jesus Christ.

The organizing committee consists of 1 clergy person and 2 lay persons from each church involved and meets 10 times a year to arrange:-

United Worship:- during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Lent and Holy Week and at Pentecost.

Pulpit Exchange for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

United Study Groups:- during Lent.

Events of witness to the community:-

The Good Friday march of witness through the town, following the cross to the market place, where an open air service is held .
Carol Singing in Front Street, before an open air service in the market place and the ceremony of   "Lighting the Christmas Tree ".
One annual social event.

All the clergy from the churches involved, meet  on Thursday mornings at 7.45 a.m., for a weekly prayer breakfast.
